A BIKE JOURNEY
A cyclist travels along a road without turning back. The graph shows the total distance travelled since the start against time. Each straight segment joins two measurements and represents a constant speed. The same measurements are given in the table.
Time (min) on the horizontal axis; distance (km) on the vertical axis. The line joins (0, 0), (10, 2), (15, 2) and (25, 5).

During which interval does the cyclist stop? Explain how the graph shows this.

Compare the cyclist’s speed from 0 to 10 minutes and from 15 to 25 minutes. Calculate each speed in km/min and relate it to the slope of each segment.

After 25 minutes, the cyclist keeps the speed of the final segment for another 5 minutes. What total distance will she have travelled at 30 minutes?
